Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy

 

Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy is a number of categories which helpss in developing thinking and learning that begins from lower order thinking skills and builds into higher order thinking skills. The initial Bloom’s Taxonomy had six levels begins with knowledge at the lower level then goes through comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation. It is adapted to the learning process in the classroom as useful tool in learning.



Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy, which is revised by Anderson and Krathwohl, turns the concepts of Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy into different concepts. In Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy, verbs are used rather than nouns begin with remembering moving to understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating. There has been a change in the sequence also at level five and six , with evaluating being seen as a lower level to that of creating. It helps students to acquire skills at all of these various levels and to improve critical thinking too.



Bloom’s Taxonomy has a little evident in setting learning objectives in the Saudi EFL classrooms, they don't apply the whole levels in Bloom's Taxonomy. In the class the students may just using the first three levels remembering, understanding and applying but actually they don't concentrate on the other levels , they don't have a chance to analyze and evaluate which result at the end creating creative things. As a future teacher, I would like to use it to the students because it gives them an opportunity to be more creative, to be autonomous learner, and to operate their cognitive skill and of course improve critical thinking.

The role of WeQuests in learning a foreign/second language?

I took long time to understand what is wequest and how can we as learners take benefit from it because it is something new for me and I have never heard before.

 

 According to the creator of Web quest it is defined as : an inquiry-oriented activity in which some or all of the information that learners interact with comes from resources on the Internet. Web Quests are designed to use learners' time well, to focus on using information rather than looking for it, and to support learners' thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis and evaluation. I see many advantages of using a web quest in classroom such as, integrating technology into the curriculum, including appropriate links to the subjects, multiple sources of information, students are more autonomous, different and interesting way of learning, etc. Web Quests are also a wonderful way of capturing students' imagination and allowing them to explore in a guided, meaningful manner.

 

The teacher's role is to design a good and attractive Webquest which is appropriate to the students and to their levels. On other hand, most of the work depend on the students. They will be working in groups to accomplish their tasks on the Webquest and divide the work among each other. They have to become experts on a certain topic and share this information with their group. It is a time where they can learn something important, but they get to show off their creativity and their ability to work with others. The questions posed to students require more than just finding and spitting back information. They must take the information they research and transform it into something else. Often students have to evaluate a variety of information sources that contain multiple opinions.

 

As a teacher , I will use the webquest with my student after I make sure that they really understand it , see its value and like it. This because WebQuests contribute to increasing student motivation When students are motivated, they are likely to put in more effort, and their minds are more alert and ready to make connections, and help them to be a collaborative learner. In my opinion the new useful teaching methods will attract the students to the courses, will help them to be interested with their studying. So , if the students will enjoy, learn, and work on webquest, I will use it definitely.

 

 



How would I use blogs, wikis and delicious with their students?”

Using technology can be powerful , useful , and effective tool to the learners and the teachers. To ensure the students will not get bored we have to change the strategy of learning process by the time and keep up with the development. These technologies can also be beneficial tool for communicating among the students   

Websites such as Blogs, Wikis, and delicious will help me as a teacher and as a student, When I become a teacher I will help them to get used to use these websites and enjoying working by them.

I would use the Blogs to let them feel free for writing and expressing what they want to write, and at the same time to improve their writing skills and the typing on computers. We can together choose a topic and start writing about it and then we read the blogs of each other comment, and sharing the information.

For Wiki, it is used as a way to introduce student's works and assignments and give them a chance to collaborative with each other to make their final project. For example, I will let them to divide themselves into groups and I give them topics so they can choose one and then start working on it and post it in their group wiki and then discuss it with other students. This will teach them how to work in groups and how to be collaborative learner.

Delicious is a social bookmarking tool that we can use it to store and share the bookmarks with each other. Each student will have her account in delicious and she has to bookmark any websites or links which is useful for our class and the others get benefit from these bookmarks  

The Possiblity of Reaching Bax’s Normilasation in our national context: Why is it possible?When is it possible/reached/achieved?How will it be reached?

 

 

 

Bax suggested that we can achieve normalization when we use it everyday and when we take it as a normal thing in ourlives and as integral part as he said. We must change our thinking  and attitudes towards computers and get rid of all fears and badly thinking of it. We have see it from all sides not only the negative that we put it in our minds. We must change the idea that it can do everything ans stop seeing it as unfounded fascination, we have take into account other factors such as software, technology, and teacher and learner attitudes to change the idea that computers alone are sufficient

As we know that we don't use computers a lot in schools and as I see the books are too much to carry especially for the elementary students, so I see how it is important the presence of technology and using computers in the educational side.

Normalization can be reached to Saudi educational institutions in the future by following possible things:

  Computers and devices must be available for all students and also must taking it seriously and check them from time to time to fix any problem they may face and hinder their work

 Provide specialized , trained, and enough  teachers who are going to deal with it

 I think it should be with small sizes to be more comfortable of using it like ipads nowadays

The schools have to provide big classes sutiable for this situation

Teacher should be facilitator and manager, and encouraging the students to be more creative, useful and accustomed

Using it during the everyday lecture, and for doing the tasks and homeworks

 

Students must get used to use it in the field of education and not taking it only as entertainment tool
